Just got Dead Island Game of the Year Edition two days ago. I gotta say, it's pretty damn fun! So far, I only have 2 complaints:

1. There isn't really a story. There're just people giving you quests to progress you through the game. I don't really care about my character. The best I got to know him was when he told me his bio, other than that, the game hasn't tried to reach out to me. I don't care about other characters, either, because you don't spend enough time with any of them. Like I said, it's just get quest, do quest, advance through the game. Hopefully a real story will develop at some point.

2. This game is SO buggy. The music cuts out fairly often, and sometimes all sounds will cut out. This I can deal with, but what I can't stand is the EXTREME lag. I can't go five minutes without the game getting laggy on me. And when it happens, I'm way less effective in what I'm doing, whether it's killing zombies or driving a vehicle. Also, the lag is usually fairly long, about 5-30 seconds. This lag is (almost) gamebreaking.

Other than those two things, I'm really enjoying this game! The combat is great, the weapon degradation is awesome, and the skill trees aren't daunting in size. Additionally, it doesn't take too long to level up. I really love the island setting. It's one of the main reasons I bought this game. The environments are breathtaking. The graphics are not too shabby, although the engine does suffer from occasional texture pop-in. Overall/so far, I'm really digging this game!

There IS a story but it develops as you go along. You just gotta really try to keep the side quests to the side so to speak to keep you from being sidetracked from the main storyline and what is actually going on. As for the lag issue, I'm assuming you're playing on the PC? I can't say the same for the Xbox but on PS3, there isn't any game lag unless you're playing online. Whenever I play online, the only lag issue I have is the fact that sometimes the zombies appear and disappear right in front of your face. Sometimes I'd also get the kill, get the kill, and then still see the same zombie standing up and beating the crap out of my partner or me. Well hey, at least you're enjoying it, right? No, I'm playing on my PS3. I experience extreme lag in both single-player and and co-op. And so far, there really isn't a story. Help this place, find out what happened there, help these people, kill these zombies, get this item. There's no connecting story, or really any story. I'm on Chapter 5, so I don't know when this supposed story begins. I mean, there's more story in a few of the side quests than the main quest.
