Shoutbox automatically updates though, its a faster chat. People can also have better private messages and can also create their own personal chat rooms and do /invite to invite people to it. The shoutbox/chatroom has more than 1 purpose.

Posting in the off-topic section actually has less benefits. It cause more spam. It would be harder for moderators/admins like me and rrobb911 to watch over, it would be harder to have a private group chat with a few friends, etc. See? The shoutbox is very useful at times. Though, please explain and give proper reasons why we should delete the shoutbox. Give ONLY your reasons, I want to here YOUR personal reason why you don't like the shoutbox. The off-topic area would be filled with spam. The off-topic section is for things like random polls, jokes, and thigns that are worth making threads about. Not random spam like, *creates thread with Title Hey guys, sup?* *puts nothing in description* *posts another thread* *another thread* *and more*

Do you see what I am getting at? Off-Topic section is the mere purpose of just relaxing and having fun at seperate times. Its not just for conversations.
Thats why the Shoutbox/chatroom were created. The shoutbox was created to show recent Threads that were posted on so other people on the forums can keep up to date.
The chatroom was created to have nice chats at a certain time.

Now explain how the Off-Topic section would be better then the chatroom itself, please.

Exactly. We would be moderating nonstop posting, and all if it about things that don't belong in a thread. Chat is a place where people can quickly respond to each other without waiting 30 seconds between responses. It also allows us to say shorter things that don't belong as a thread post (ex. "lol" "cool" "wow"). When using the chatbox, everyone can see conversations in realtime. Posting in threads would cause a huge mass of messages that are out of order and replying to people and would be a mess.

I could explain my reasoning, but it would be a page long, and I don't have the patience to type it.

This would have to go back to my suggestion about the website that I posted yesterday. There shouldn't even be anything but Dead Island talk here.

There is another forum I'm a member of called Kanzenshuu. That forum doesn't have an off-topic section or anything, it's strictly about the Dragon Ball franchise only. Yet it still the best community I've ever seen on a forum. All members there are rescpecful, use proper grammer. And most importantly, the community has never died. People on there still post all day everyday.

There is no doubt in my mind that this forum can still be successful without being able to go off-topic.

This may be a bad comparison, but I don't care. I don't know how old you are or if you ever had a job, but for this I'm going to make the assumption you've held at least one job. Do you go to work and talk strictly work? That means no joking, talking about family, sports, or whatever. I honestly would quit my job if I wasn't able to just chat with other employees. You get to know each other and can become friends. I would not be here if it wasn't for the off-topic section. I asked my Dead Island question and it was answered. If there was no off-topic section, then why would I stay? I hardly play Dead Island anymore, but I stay because of the people I have met and the community we have here. If you just pop into the off-topic section or chatbox and joke around with us a little bit, you will see what I mean.

in that post yes he did. However it was just that one post. It wasn't mentioned when we got on the topic of Dead Island's fanbase. Once the clear...very clear difference between the to forms of entertainment was clarified the comparasion was dropped. Also I didn't get the part about grammer and respect either, that was just kinda outta the blue haha. Remember this thread is about the shoutbox. He was for it being removed due to it takes away from Dead Island discussion but that was why the chat room was created so that instead of just posting meaningless conversations about hentai MMOs in the shoutbox, which would completely bury any questions and possible importent threads that are posted, we can use a different tab to keep members online and active. Once a thread for every subject is opened (Skulls, glitches, char trees, etc etc) which due to it being just one game it is going to happen. There is really no reason for anyone to stay here otherwise we'd just be repeating ourselfs and wasting time that a quick search could solve. The Shoutbox itself is equally importent as since that is now just used for thread notification the regular members are instantly alerted to any dire needs (Help massive glitch can't move no interaction blah blah) if there was no shoutbox it is very likely no one would see that and hey maybe someone's online who can actually help you right then and there. More or likely they are a veteran player who has experienced everything that they could yet the only reason they bothered to come online was to chat it up in the chatbox about Hentai MMOs haha.

I'm pretty sure that has already happened. New and old members alike just fail to search. I guarentee that 90% of the questions asked this month could have been solved with a quick search. A thread just opened asking where Zed's demise is. There have been countless threads on that and it is even on any Dead Island game guide/wiki.

Nice point. People post threads and sit there waiting for a response, I know I've done it. If they would ask the question in the chatroom, chances are it can be solved right away. The problem with this, though, is that it would take away from thread making. A person might have a problem that is unheard of, which is why threads made about problems is benefitial. If a thread is made about a problem that has been solved, all we would need to do is direct the person to the previous thread, wait to see if that answered the question, and then we can shut their first thread down.

Then why was this forum even made? By your loic these "teens" shouldn't even care enough about talking with other people about the game. If you just want to talk about random stuff just go to 4chan. That is why 4chan was created. This forum is to talk about Dead Island. Nobody joins a forum just to talk randomly with people. They join it cause they care about the subject they joined it for.

This forum was made for Dead Island. People stay for the community.

I understand what you're saying. I could go on about this but I'm not going to bother to. It's pretty clear the shoutbox isn't going anywhere. Maybe I'll try it out one day and see things differently.

True. Shoutbox = short conversations that don't require and would spam a thread. Off-topic = longer conversations that are better suited for a thread format.
